Portability
« on: April 30, 2009, 11:40:08 PM »
Is there a way of making app writes it's settings to app folder. I mean:
%AppData%\Settings.xml and Favorites.xml to make it OS independent or portable since it's kind of app worth having with you in all times  :)

Since I belong to specific group of people which doesn't use installer programs. http://www.portablefreeware.com/faq.php#3

I use in most cases Universal Extract to extract installer packages without need of installing it. I prefer manually put app in folder I like, and I like to have it's setting with it in case of re-installing OS.

You can download portable version from here - RevoluTV Portable. Just unzip to any folder on your drive or usb-drive.

I downloaded the portable version and when run into 2 problems:

- When unzip it, it keeps saying "Destination folder already contains process file"
- Try running it (on Vista 32 and 64 bit, same 2 system ran fine with the installed version) will result in a "an invalid argument encountered" error mesage.

I appreciate any help.

If you unzip RevoluTV Portable in the 'program files' folder you can get some problems on Vista, in this case I recommend use the install version. If you unzip in any other folder try to check 'Run as Administrator' checkbox in RevoluTV.exe properties.

I did not unzip the portable version into Program Files.

I unzipped the portable version onto a USB, and noticed that the placement of some files are not correct. Maybe that's why it's not running properly.

This is what I encountered (running as Administrator):

- Warning about locations (notice how all the languages files were placed outside of Languages folder)
- Error message
- Blank (black) screen in revoluTV

Hmm.. As I can see the location of the files is not correct, the correct location should be the same as install version. This is very strange if you unzipped the zip file with Windows Explorer. Try again unzip Portable version, but for unzip just drag and drop the RevoluTV folder from zip file to your usb drive.

I unzipped them after downloading using IE (and also FireFox).

It would be very odd if you download the same file and it does not give you same (error) result

Please download this self-extracting archive with RevoluTV Portable http://vinylsoft.com/download/revolutv_portable.exe and just install to your usb-drive and write results.
